Minęło kilkadziesiątlat od momentu, kiedy Peter Schilling z utworem "Major Tom (völlig losgelöst)" zdobył szczyt niemieckiej listy przebojów - piosenka utrzymywała się na nim przez osiem tygodni. Singiel, wraz z debiutanckim albumem Fehler im System ( Error in the System ) wydanym w listopadzie 1982 roku, zapoczątkował bezprecedensową karierę muzyczną artysty ze Stuttgartu w Niemczech - światowy sukces rozciągający się od Europy po Stany Zjednoczone, gdzie angielska wersja "Major Tom (Coming Home)" osiągnęła numer 14 na liście przebojów Billboardu.
